A celebration for a celebration!

What’s Happenin’!?: This Wednesday at 7 pm at The Lucky Strike Lanes, the New York City 8 and their friends are invited to attend a get-together to celebrate the awesomeness that is Fireflies and to rival the celebration to be had by the Home crew. Because sadly, we cannot be at Sarah’s celebration, but we still should be together, win or lose.

A little info about our venue: This celebrity lounge is filled with yummy apps, pool tables, bowling lanes, a great bar, lots of TV’s and of course celeb’s ;). Check out their website @ http://www.bowlluckystrike.com/about/.

Cross Streets: 42nd & 12th (This is in Team Fame’s building.)

Can’t wait to see you all there, please let any Team Fame member know whether you’re coming or not.

Today was the Snowpacalypse!

Snow!

It snowed all day, and its actually still snowing like crazy with some scary wind gusts. In honor of the event, Jo and I trekked out into the frozen tundra to have a snow ball fight and romp around in the knee deep snow covering the little park outside of our building. I found an empty trash bag, which I tried to wrangle and ride down a hill, unsuccessfully. Unfortunately, my camera is non-existent right now and jo left her charger at home… so no photos of the actual event.

CBS News Division Hit With Layoffs

New York, Washington bureau to feel cuts, total number expected to be less than 100

By John Eggerton — Broadcasting & Cable, 2/1/2010 2:50:48 PM

The news division at CBS was hit with layoffs Monday (Feb. 1), according to sources there.

The company began informing employees Friday (Jan. 29) and notifications continued into Monday.

The cuts will further eliminate news gathering costs and will be felt at broadcast headquarters in New York but also at the 150-person Washington bureau, according to those familiar with the discussions. Most CBS News programs will end up losing some staff including 60 Minutes, which has largely been spared the axe that has periodically fallen on other programs and departments. The total number of layoffs is expected to come in under 100 or less than 7% of the news division.

CBS News declined to comment.

CBS News’ foreign bureaus underwent downsizing in 2008. And last year the network signed a deal with foreign news gathering web site GlobalPost that gives CBS News a footprint in 50 countries via the independent sites’ army of correspondents.

The news comes as another grim marker for media companies struggling to cut costs and reinvent themselves as leaner and more efficient while not undercutting their mission as news organizations.

Layoffs and restructuring have occurred at all three broadcast news divisions over the past few years. And the recession has only exacerbated the belt-tightening.

Last week ABC News laid off 31 people in broadcast operations and engineering. BOE plans to eliminate more jobs later this year, bringing the total reduction in staff to about 70 positions. Some of those cuts will involve union positions.

“We are in a new paradigm,” said one veteran producer. “We can’t do business as we have done it. Everybody gets that.”

Life at 42nd and Fame, sure is fabulous.

This weekend went by so quickly, as Jo, Chris and I roamed through the streets of Brooklyn looking like superstars. We befriended a small black child on the bus home from Ikea…. after only a short conversation the boy asked us if we were famous. He continued to tell us about his connections in the city, he’s close with The Ga, Nelly, 50 cent, among others. Before we parted ways, he looked deep into Chris’ eyes and said, “You really are going to be famous someday, I can tell.”

Team Fame also hooked up with the Chelsea crew this weekend, to experience a little happy hour in the city. We ventured to Mr.Biggs for half off apps and drinks. Chris ordered a cosmo, because he’s a ______ (you fill in the blank.)

We then traveled to one of the cities most disturbing bars, Rudy’s. Upon entering, you are given the up-down by a large creepy bouncer, who apparently intends to check you out, flirt with you, and probably consider raping you throughout the entire night. Luckily we made it out unscathed - you can see a picture of the creeptastic man in the background of one of the photos above.

By the time 10 o’clock hit, us superstars had had enough, and headed back to 42nd and fame to check out for the night.

The rest of our weekend involved a late-night outing, free shots, drunken extravaganza-ing, meeting nick’s friend….who’s jacket caught on fire inside a bar, dancing, forcing random bargoer’s to play juke box songs of our choosing (aka. lady gaga,) having nicks friend knock my beer out of my hand and smash it on the ground, and a slew of other delightful events.

Pics of our new and improved, furniture filled apartment are coming soon.

AND

This weekend FAME is going to have our first house guest… Ben Mauch, photog from Fox 13. He will be sleeping in our living room starting Friday night… this should be an interesting weekend.

FURTHERMORE! :) It’s J.Stone’s birthday this Friday, so there should be a plethora of excitement.

Stay tuned.

Love you HOMEies

Today’s adventure: Going to Brooklyn

The gang of W 20th Street (Me, Ricky, and Jeremy) decided we needed to make a trip to Target. Ricky needed a white polo for the job he got, Jeremy wanted some food containers, and other random things. So, the 2 closest Target’s are in the Bronx, and one in Brooklyn. We decided to go to Brooklyn, cause none of us had ever been. USUALLY, it is simple to get there, just a straight shot on the 2 train. TODAY, not so much…

Got on the 2… then went about 2 stops and had to get off, being told that it was the last stop and the train wasn’t going any further South. Apparently there was a power outage on the track past Wall Street. So we had to hop on another train real quick, not really knowing where we were going. Got off on a stop we thought was close to the Target, then had NO idea where to go.

Long story short, we turned around about two times but finally found the Target.

That’s the excitement for today, folks :)

But there should be some fun stories soon, starting MTV on Wednesday! So far Jovanna, Chris, and Jeremy like their jobs.  We all went out to a couple bars for happy hour and what-not the other night. We found a place that gave out free hot dogs, and we had FUN. Let me just say, Chris Futrell has some good dance moves. And Katy has a new game called “kick the trash!”  :)

BYEEEE
